This Subject Guide will help students locate the fundamental documents that grant and govern the intelligence activities of the United States Intelligence Community (USIC).

A description of what kinds of resources you will find in each section within Intelligence-Related Resources 

 

United States Intelligence Community (USIC): In this section, you will find resources related to the forming of the USIC, the documents outlining roles and responsibilities, and member organization's links.  

Journals Relevant to Strategic Security: In this section, you will find an alphabetized list of links to open access journals as well as some subscription databased journals that contain open source articles.  There is also foreign language journals related to intelligence and finally, a list of relevant journals to which a paid subscription is required.  This is where you find peer-reviewed resources.  

Dictionaries and Encyclopedias: In this section, you will find a list of encyclopedias and dictionaries specific to the discipline.  

Intelligence-Related EBooks: In this section, you will find a list of eBooks specific to the discipline.  

Intelligence-Related Statutes (Laws): In this section, you will find a list of laws specific to intelligence and organized by subject.  

Intelligence-Related Executive Orders and Other Policy Directives:  The President of the United States issues operational guidance to the executive branch on how to execute faithfully the law through "Executive Orders." Many key Executive Orders exist that apply to the intelligence professionals and they are available here. There is also a list of intelligence-relevant policy directives.  

Intelligence Community Directives (ICD), Policy Guidance, & National Intelligence Council (NIC) Products: The Director of National Intelligence (DNI) issues operational guidance to the USIC as ICDs and Policies.  The ICDs and policies along with NIC products are located here.   

Seminal Documents:  When an academic's original work plants the seed that shapes the thoughts of all academics within a discipline, the work is called a "seminal document." Some of the most influential documents in Intelligence Studies are the reports to Congress on intelligence activities as they continue to shape our country's laws. In this section you will find reports such as Church Committee Report.  

Other Intelligence Management Web Resources: In this section, you will find links to sources of other collections such as area studies or terrorism or illicit activities.  

Government Sources Relevant to HPSSS: Databases of government documents as well as links that can provide 

Maps and Satellite Image Resources: In this section, you will find links to sources of images and maps.

Datasets:  When scientists organize data and information into a collection that can then be analyzed and evaluated by other scientists, it is called a dataset.  This section is a group of dataset available to students for original scientific research such as research for a specific analytical study, thesis or dissertation.  

Geospatial Apps: In this section, you will find links to sources of GIS applications.  

Historical Map: In this section, you will find links to sources of historical maps and map collections. 

Mapping Militancy: In this section, you will find links to sources of militants and terrorist organizations. 

Remote Sensing: In this section, you will find links to sources of remote sensing such as global viewers and earth observation.
